As the survey above stated that domain extension has a low effect on your SEO, the real impact of TLD is not sure yet.It can favor your SEO strategy. Google has once again confirmed that the new domain extensions will offer no ranking advantage over traditional .com or .org domains.

No domain doesn't effect search engine ranking.
yes. it affects when you are selecting bw top level domain vs second level domain. top elvel deomain will always rank higher and give boost in SEO. if you ar talking about .com vs .xyz then answer is no. no it not affects the SEO. but if you are ranking on first page with .xyz domain.. your site will look fishhy or not reliable compare to the other one ranking below you with .com domain so user will click on that site instead of yours. and CTR metters in SEO. .. so indirectly it affects the SEO.
