Can .info websites rank well in Google?

.info websites are so cheap to buy and I can buy so many more of these than .com domains. Would it be worth my while to rank these or does Google see .info as spam fulled websites?

Yes, .Info websites are also useful and can rank well in Google.
If you update fresh & informative content on the site and optimize it well than it will also rank high.

I think it depends more on what kind of content you put on your dot info site. If you put quality content on it, then Google will know about it and treat it accordingly. This is not just about dot info. There are also many other less common extensions like country extensions. Given the right treatment, any extension can be used to create a good site.
