He lost it for a while to the Mexican telecoms tycoon Carlos Slim, but has now once again become the richest man in the world. What is he now worth? Only a whopping $78.5 bn!! :victorious:
 
Gates, who regained the title of the world's richest man in May from Mexican telecoms magnate Carlos Slim, made most of his gains from the 40% increase in the price of Microsoft shares. He owns about 4.5% of the company he founded in 1975 and is still the largest individual shareholder.

I didn't realise he only has 4.5% share of Microsoft, thought it would have been higher than that. Also, a 40% rise in MS shares? surely not down to Windows 8!

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, The world’s richest enjoyed a bumper year last year, with Bill Gates reclaiming his crown as the world’s wealthiest person from Carlos Slim.
