You can use WordPress for e-commerce sites, membership sites, photo galleries and any other type of site you can think of. The web site is created using the same html code as any other site so there are no limitations there either.

I think wordpress too has it's own limitations and weakness. It's true that it offers amazingly huge array of free plugins and easy to use platform that makes it easy to manage your website's contents.

However in my personal experience Wordpress websites are often victims of hacking and it appears it is a bit easier to hack wordpress sites. Besides wordpress is also not capable of offering portal sites or high level user access security as with other top platforms.
