Just wanted to ask if any body know that if its safe to surf internet behind a proxy server and if there is any way my data or information can get stolen by proxy operators on its way. Please do reply because I am really concerned about this information about the safety and security of a proxy server.

It depends on how their server is setup. It is unlikely that well known proxies like hidemyass will be collecting passing traffic, but i wouldn't use a proxy for financial transactions. If you're looking to remain anonymous on the web, look into TOR which may do what you are looking for.

Not all servers are the same. From experience, though, I haven't experienced anything bad with proxies. So far, I've been satisfied with their services. But if you're concerned with security, it's better to use paid-for rather than the public/free proxies out there.
