There's lots of ways to get into a WP blog, even if it's not via the WP software, some of my blogs have been hacked several times over the years despite being up to date. The best thing to do is to do regular file and database backups.

I can't really see how you could create hundreds of websites of decent quality, at least unless you're talking about doing this over several years. Maintaining them would be all but impossible, unless you had a staff of course.

Indeed, you need to read the fine print carefully. My second host (JustHost) did this, cutting all my websites off when my forum went over 10% of the shared server CPU. It was a real pain, and resulted in me moving hosts in the end.
