Usually when you purchase a domain they will offer to give you a few email addresses from which they will auto-forward to your personal account. This is good for receiving mail, but when it comes to sending emails you need to purchase their mail hosting service as well.

Is there a way to send email from your domain without buying the mail hosting package?
